Back to Kanto: Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Arrive on Switch!

It looks like the 30th Anniversary of Pokémon is starting with a massive hit of nostalgia. In a move that caught Trainers off guard today, February 20, 2026, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company officially announced that the Game Boy Advance classics Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen are coming to the Nintendo Switch.

The games will officially launch on February 27, 2026—Pokémon Day—immediately following the annual Pokémon Presents broadcast.

A Standalone Celebration

Breaking from the recent tradition of retro titles being locked behind a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, these games are digital-exclusive, à la carte releases. You can own them permanently for your digital library on both the original Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

  • Price: $29.99 CAD ($19.99 USD) each.
  • The Sevii Islands: The full post-game content is included, allowing you to explore the extended archipelago beyond the original 151 Pokémon.
  • Pokémon HOME Support: While not available at the exact second of launch, a future update is already confirmed to allow you to transfer your Kanto team into the Pokémon HOME cloud service.

Wireless Club Reimagined

The original GBA releases famously shipped with a physical Wireless Adapter to replace the Link Cable. The Switch versions modernize this by utilizing the console’s built-in Local Wireless communication.

  • The Union Room: You can meet up with up to four friends in a local physical space to trade Pokémon, engage in battles, or play the iconic Berry-picking minigames.
  • Note on Online: It is important to note that this release focuses on a "faithful port" experience; online multiplayer is not supported. All trading and battling must be done via local wireless.
