Elden Ring: Nightreign Conquers Canada’s Charts for May 2025

From brutal bosses to burning rubber, Canada’s May 2025 video game sales showcase a powerful mix of fantasy, speed, and staying power.
The Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESA Canada) has released its top 10 best-selling physical games for May 2025, and the results speak volumes about what Canadians are playing — and replaying — right now.
Leading the charge is none other than Elden Ring: Nightreign, the long-awaited expansion to FromSoftware’s genre-defining open-world RPG. But that’s just the beginning. May’s list also includes new AAA debuts, high-performing remasters, esports favourites, and yes, Grand Theft Auto V is still on the list — over a decade after release.
Note: These rankings do not include digital sales across most platforms. As always, Minecraft’s digital Nintendo sales are excluded, which could potentially understate its true chart position.

The Lands Between Return — Elden Ring: Nightreign Rules the Chart
In a result that should surprise no one, Elden Ring: Nightreign debuted at #1 in Canada, cementing its place as one of 2025’s most anticipated expansions.
Expanding on the already massive world of Elden Ring, Nightreign introduces a brand-new region, new bosses, and deep lore that has kept Canadian players enthralled. FromSoftware continues to prove that brutal difficulty and deeply rewarding exploration are a winning combo — even three years after the original’s release.
The physical launch's strength also suggests many fans were eager to own a collector’s edition or simply wanted a boxed copy to go with their original game.
Doom is Back — The Dark Ages Takes #2 by Storm
Doom: The Dark Ages, id Software’s medieval reimagining of the Doom franchise, debuted strong at #2, marking another hit for Bethesda under the Microsoft umbrella.
Trading space stations for swords and shields (and of course, shotguns), the game’s mix of brutal melee, siege combat, and explosive set pieces clearly struck a chord with Canadian gamers.
With its dark fantasy spin on Doomguy’s mythos and actual dragon mounts, The Dark Ages is shaping up to be one of the most original shooters of the year.
Forza Never Slows Down — Horizon 5 Holds at #3
Forza Horizon 5 continues its unprecedented run near the top of Canada’s charts, rising back to #3 after holding #2 in April. Whether it's thanks to live-service car packs, seasonal events, or just its sheer polish, Forza’s grip on Canadian players hasn’t loosened.
Even as the racing genre gets more crowded (with F1 25 debuting this month), Forza remains the king of the open-road experience.
Oblivion Remastered Holds Strong
Dropping from #1 to #4, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is still going strong after its April debut. Its continued momentum shows that Canadian RPG fans haven’t forgotten Cyrodiil — especially now that it looks better than ever on modern hardware.
Mainstays Still Holding Their Ground
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 sits at #5, remaining a steady contender thanks to ongoing seasonal updates and its integration with Warzone.
- Minecraft, the eternal chart survivor, places #7, despite not counting Switch digital sales.
- Split Fiction continues its indie success at #8, showing real legs in its third month.
- Grand Theft Auto V returns yet again at #9, possibly driven by speculation surrounding GTA VI.
- EA Sports FC 25 rounds out the list at #10, maintaining its core audience among Canada’s growing football (soccer) fanbase.
EA Sports F1 25 Zooms Into the Top 10
At #6, EA Sports F1 25 made a solid debut, likely buoyed by the real-world Formula 1 season heating up and the game’s renewed focus on realism, story mode enhancements, and revamped driving physics.
F1’s popularity continues to rise in Canada, and this latest installment looks to capitalize on the Drive to Survive effect while offering deep sim-level control for motorsport enthusiasts.
