Hunt Together: Horizon Hunters Gathering Set for First Closed Playtest This Weekend
The world of Horizon is expanding, but this time, you won’t have to face the machines alone. Guerrilla Games has officially announced the first closed playtest for Horizon Hunters Gathering, the long-rumored three-player co-op spin-off set in the post-apocalyptic wilds of the 31st century.
Running from February 27 to March 1, 2026, this playtest marks the first time the public can get their hands on a project that promises to blend the tactical machine-dismantling of the mainline games with a fresh, stylized animated aesthetic.
Meet the Hunters: Axle, Rem, and Sun
In a departure from Aloy’s solo journey, Hunters Gathering introduces a roster of specialized warriors. For this initial test, players can choose from three distinct archetypes:
- Axle (Tactician): The mastermind of the group. Expect tools for crowd control and identifying machine weaknesses before the first arrow even flies.
- Rem (Tank): Built for the front lines. Rem is designed to soak up damage and keep the focus of a rampaging Thunderjaw off their teammates.
- Sun (Support): Every squad needs a lifeline. Sun focuses on healing, buffs, and ensuring the team stays in the fight when things get "mechanical."

The Trials: Machine Incursions and Cauldron Descents
The playtest offers a glimpse into the game's core loop through two primary modes:
- Machine Incursion: A high-octane survival mode where waves of machines pour from underground gateways, culminating in a massive boss encounter.
- Cauldron Descent: A multi-stage, roguelike-inspired trial. You'll navigate ever-changing rooms filled with randomized threats and rewards, testing your team’s adaptability.
Between these lethal missions, players will retreat to The Gathering, a shared social hub. Here, you can hang out with other Hunters and customize your personal campsite—a "cozy" touch in an otherwise dangerous world.
