Mario’s 40th Anniversary Kicks Off With Galaxy Re-Releases and a New Movie

Shigeru Miyamoto himself opened the Direct with a major milestone: 40 years of Super Mario Bros., which first launched on September 13, 1985. In celebration, Nintendo is going galactic.

Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Return This October

Available as a bundle or separately via Nintendo eShop, both Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 launch on October 2 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. The updated editions include:

  • Enhanced visuals and 4K resolution on Switch 2
  • Storybook mode and music player
  • Optional motion or button controls
