Scott Pilgrim EX Launches March 3, Reveals Matthew Patel and Robot-01 in New Trailer

Developer and publisher Tribute Games has officially announced that Scott Pilgrim EX will launch digitally on March 3, revealed alongside a brand-new high-energy trailer. Created in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, the game brings classic beat 'em up action back to Toronto with new fighters, a new story, and a familiar love for deep-cut Scott Pilgrim references.

Alongside the release date, two new playable characters were unveiled: Matthew Patel and Robot-01, both former enemies now stepping into the spotlight as fully playable fighters.

Two New Fighters Join the Brawl

The latest trailer introduces two very different but equally destructive additions to the roster, each pulling directly from Scott Pilgrim lore.

Matthew Patel Brings Mystic Chaos

Matthew Patel, a founding member of the League of Evil Exes, enters the fight with theatrical flair and supernatural chaos. His combat style blends fire, ritual, and showmanship, allowing him to control space and manipulate enemy movement.

Patel can summon demon hipsters to distract and trap enemies, conjure extra arms, launch bursts of flame, and unleash powerful finishing moves infused with mythic energy. He is a crowd-control specialist who thrives on turning the flow of battle in his team’s favour.

Robot-01 Delivers Speed and Destruction

Built by the Katayanagi Twins, Robot-01 is a combat machine designed for maximum punishment. Fast, aggressive, and relentless, Robot-01 rockets across the screen with thrusters, transforms mid-fight, and fires devastating long-range attacks.

Its signature strong attack rains explosive projectiles across the battlefield, clearing out enemy crowds in seconds. Where Patel is methodical and mystical, Robot-01 is raw power and precision.

Saving Toronto, One Punch at a Time

In Scott Pilgrim EX, members of Toronto’s coolest band, Sex Bob-omb, have been kidnapped and their instruments stolen. As demons, vegans, and robots terrorize the city, Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, and a growing crew of allies must fight across a warped version of Toronto to save the band, the city, and the world.

Players will battle through streets, beaches, and even time itself. The game features seven playable fighters, with Scott and Ramona set to gain one final ally before launch.

Classic Beat Em Up Action With a Fresh Story

True to Tribute Games’ reputation, Scott Pilgrim EX blends fast, responsive combat with expressive pixel art and highly interactive environments. Enemies can be dispatched using each character’s unique, upgradable moveset or improvised weapons pulled straight from the environment, including baseball bats, demonic rods, turnips, and more.

The experience is anchored by a brand-new storyline co-written by Bryan Lee O’Malley and the Tribute Games team. Music is handled by longtime series collaborators Anamanaguchi, delivering an all-new soundtrack that fits perfectly alongside the game’s kinetic action.

Platforms and Release Plans

Scott Pilgrim EX launches digitally on March 3 for PC and consoles, with physical editions coming soon.
