Sponge Break Revealed as Chaotic Co-Op Rafting Escape from the Kitchen Sink
Goose Byte Games and Balor Games have announced Sponge Break, a 1 to 4 player co-op rafting game where players take on the role of sponges attempting to escape a hostile kitchen sink environment.
The game focuses on physics-based rafting, with players navigating hazardous waterways on a fragile raft that can easily break apart. Steering requires coordination, and mistakes can flip the raft, scatter resources, and deal damage that can end a run quickly.
Sponge Break supports both solo play and drop-in co-op, allowing players to join sessions in progress. It also includes proximity voice chat, where communication depends on distance, with in-game sponge characters lip-syncing to player voices.
Players use a plunger tool that functions as a grappling hook to interact with objects, recover lost items, and assist with traversal. A shared inventory system lets teams store resources, which can be lost if the raft is destroyed.
The game features a range of environmental hazards, including fire, obstacles, and hostile wildlife such as beavers. Progression spans multiple biomes like sewers, rivers, and abandoned facilities, with safehouse areas between runs for recovery and preparation.
