The Outlast Trials Is Now Available on Nintendo Switch 2 With Cross-Play
Red Barrels has officially brought The Outlast Trials to Nintendo Switch 2, giving players another way to experience the studio’s cooperative survival horror game.
The Switch 2 version is available now digitally through the Nintendo eShop for $49.99 CAD and launches with full cross-play support, allowing Nintendo players to team up with friends across other platforms.
The release also arrives with the latest Season 7.2 content, meaning Switch 2 players can jump directly into the current version of the game.
Survive Murkoff’s Experiments on Switch 2
Set during the Cold War, The Outlast Trials places players inside the disturbing experiments of the Murkoff Corporation.
Players take on the role of Reagents forced to participate in brutal Trials designed around brainwashing, psychological manipulation, and survival.
Unlike the earlier Outlast games, The Outlast Trials is built around both solo and cooperative play. Players can attempt to survive alone or work together in teams of up to four.
Cross-Play Is Supported
One of the most important features of the Nintendo Switch 2 version is full cross-play.
Switch 2 players can join friends across supported platforms rather than being limited to the Nintendo community.
That is especially important for a game built around co-op, as it gives new Switch 2 players access to the larger existing Outlast Trials community from day one.
Season 7.2 Content Is Included
The Switch 2 release launches alongside the current Season 7.2 update.
That includes the ESCAPE THE FACILITY community event, where players collect intel in an effort to move closer to escaping Murkoff’s control.
The GEISTER limited-time event has also returned, bringing hallucinatory effects, new objectives, and exclusive rewards.
Season 7.2 also introduced two additional MK-Challenges alongside various gameplay adjustments and improvements.
Solo or Co-Op Survival Horror
The core gameplay remains focused on escaping, hiding, and surviving rather than becoming an action hero.
Players will need to avoid enemies, make use of stealth, create opportunities to escape, and rely on specialized tools when things go wrong.
Each Trial tests players through different objectives and hazards, while MK-Challenges offer shorter variations built around specific tasks and scenarios.
Between assignments, players can upgrade their Reagent, unlock perks, customize their character, and personalize their living space.
A Strong Fit for Portable Horror
The move to Switch 2 gives The Outlast Trials something the other console versions cannot offer in the same way: portable play.
Being able to enter the Sinyala Facility on a handheld adds another layer to an already tense experience, particularly for players who want to jump into shorter Trials without being tied to a television or monitor.
The release also comes at a strong time for Red Barrels, with the game recently surpassing 120,000 concurrent players, marking one of its biggest community milestones to date.
Another Big Moment for Red Barrels
The Switch 2 launch is also another significant moment for Red Barrels, the Montreal studio behind the Outlast franchise.
Since its Early Access debut in 2023 and full console release in 2024, The Outlast Trials has continued to grow through new seasons, events, challenges, and community updates.
Adding Nintendo Switch 2 gives the game access to another audience while maintaining compatibility with existing players through cross-play.
Final Thoughts
The Outlast Trials arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 feels like a natural next step for Red Barrels.
Cross-play means new players can immediately join the established community, while the inclusion of Season 7.2 ensures the Nintendo version launches with current content rather than starting behind other platforms.
For Switch 2 owners looking for a cooperative horror game, Murkoff’s Therapy is officially open.
