VGLX Weekend Recap: Connecting Players, Gamers, and Creators Across Canada.
This weekend I had the privilege of visiting and taking part of Video Game Live Expo (VGLX) at the Mississauga Convention Centre here in the GTA. I attended on day two, the Sunday, and to me it felt more like joining a big group of friends who love games than just attending another convention.
This gaming event focused on bringing everyone in the gaming world together, whether you’re a serious competitor, a creator, a developer, or just looking for something fun to do with the family. Toronto, as a whole, has a lot of gaming events, but VGLX made sure everyone felt included, from casual fans to competitive players alike.

The main attractions during the convention included tournaments for Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 hosted by Incendium that drew enthusiastic players. The creative Minecraft Creative Zone encouraged new ideas, while endless Pokémon packed activities provided fun for all ages. One of my highlights? Meeting the giant Snorlax, Mimikyu, and Eevee mascots walking around the con for photo ops. There were also tons of cosplayers around all weekend, including special guest cosplayers from the Love and DeepSpace game (If you know, you know).
The main reason I attended the convention was to host the Eh! Game Showcase live on Twitch Toronto. Meeting 15 Canadian game studios, and getting a front-row seat (literally) to their passion and creativity, was a great experience. Games like Grey Wake, Dark Age Dinos, and GrimRail each had their own stories, showing just how much care goes into these projects. During these interviews and talking with the developers made me feel even more proud of our local industry. Canadian game developers are rad as hell.

The convention, of course, had an Artist Alley containing a plethora of great vendors, while TCG Trade Night, amongst free booster packs, were the ideal venue for collectors to connect. There were many demo and play stations for attendees to try - Players even got to try out Riot’s latest fighter, 2XKO, and the option to take part in live tournaments at the main stage were also available. The whole crowd was friendly, inclusive, and welcoming. It felt like everyone was there not just to compete but to celebrate what gaming means to us all.
VGLX’s motto says it perfectly: Bringing Gamers Together, One Game at a Time. The weekend was a mix of competition, creativity, and community in equal measure. It was exciting to see this kind of event back and growing outside of Toronto’s usual circuit. Getting to host and meet so many talented people made the whole experience even more memorable for me. I look forward to seeing how the event evolves next year, and I hope it gets even bigger!
