Digital Extremes has given players their first major deep dive into **Warframe: Tau**, the next major chapter for Warframe launching in **December 2026**.

Shown during **Devstream 198**, Tau takes players beyond the Origin System and into an entirely new Star System filled with fresh locations, new allies and enemies, new cooperative mission variants, and a new cinematic narrative.

The update will be free across PC, console, and mobile platforms.

## A New Star System Awaits

Warframe: Tau introduces a brand-new Star Chart separate from the Origin System.

Digital Extremes describes Tau as a paradise lost to war and ruin, with the region now shaped by corruption, crime, and years of conflict.

The December update will begin with two major locations: **Fornax** and **Perita**.

Fornax is a decaying ring city controlled by criminal forces, while Perita has transformed into a hostile wasteland following the events introduced in **The Old Peace**.

Digital Extremes says Tau will continue expanding through future updates, meaning December is only the beginning of this new chapter.

## Fornax Introduces a New Social Hub

Players visiting Fornax will gain access to **MANIFOLD 90-BF**, a new social hub filled with characters, rivals, secrets, and new storylines.

The city is described as heavily influenced by organized crime, giving Tau a very different atmosphere from many of Warframe’s existing locations.

Digital Extremes is also introducing new gameplay and world-building elements tied directly to Fornax, helping establish the location as one of the central areas of the Tau storyline.

## Perita Becomes a Hostile Wasteland

Perita returns in a very different state.

Once introduced through The Old Peace, the region has since collapsed into a dangerous desert environment shaped by sandstorms, conflict, and dwindling resources.

Players will encounter new factions and challenges while exploring the wasteland, including **The Cleaving Glaive**, an allied Syndicate searching for secrets buried throughout Tau.

Perita will also feature a redesigned version of Warframe’s familiar Survival mode, giving squads another way to take on cooperative missions in the new Star System.

## Brysko Is Warframe’s 67th Warframe

One of the biggest reveals from Devstream 198 is **Brysko**, the 67th Warframe.

Brysko draws inspiration from classic detective noir and will serve as the protagonist of Tau’s new single-player cinematic quest.

The character is voiced by **Matthew Mercer**, bringing a more internal, detective-style performance to the role.

Brysko will be earnable through gameplay when Warframe: Tau launches and can also be unlocked directly through the Warframe Market.

## Brysko’s Abilities Lean Into Detective Noir

Digital Extremes also gave players a closer look at Brysko’s gameplay.

His kit includes a **Hound companion**, which plays an important role in both combat and survivability.

His signature equipment includes **Rain & Shine**, a pair of fist weapons, along with an Exalted magnum called **Corecracker**.

Brysko’s abilities draw on the criminal underworld of Fornax, including explosive Portau cards, targeted shots, and mechanics built around calculated risk.

That gives him a strong thematic identity compared with many existing Warframes.

## Brysko Introduces Chimera Skins

Brysko will also introduce a new cosmetic category called **Chimera Skins**.

Digital Extremes describes this as a new premium customization class, giving players another way to change the appearance of their Warframes.

More details are expected closer to release.

## New Cooperative Gameplay Variants

Tau will not only expand Warframe’s story.

Players will also find new versions of existing cooperative mission types, including a revamped Survival experience on Perita.

That suggests Digital Extremes is using Tau as an opportunity to rethink familiar mission structures rather than simply adding another set of locations to the existing Star Chart.

For longtime players, that could be one of the more important aspects of the update.

## Koumei Gets Her First Deluxe Skin

The October Devstream also revealed new cosmetic content.

**Koumei** will receive her first Deluxe Skin, called **Koumei Enshoujo**, launching alongside Warframe: Tau in December.

The new design leans into a more dramatic femme fatale aesthetic and was shown in-game during the Devstream.

## Nezha Heirloom Skin Coming in 2027

**Nezha** will be the next Warframe to receive the Heirloom treatment.

Digital Extremes revealed early concept art for the skin, which is being co-designed with artists from Sumo Digital.

The Nezha Heirloom Skin is planned for **early 2027**.

## Tau Does Not Replace the Origin System

One concern Digital Extremes addressed directly is what Tau means for the existing Origin System.

Community Director **Megan Everett** stressed that the Origin System is not being abandoned.

Instead, Tau gives Digital Extremes more places to tell stories while continuing to build on Warframe’s original setting.

That distinction is important. Tau is being positioned as an expansion of Warframe’s universe rather than a replacement for everything that came before.

## More Tau News Is Coming November 27

This was only the first of two major Tau showcases.

Digital Extremes confirmed that the next Devstream will take place on **November 27**, with more surprises and additional details ahead of the December launch.

With Tau introducing an entirely new Star System, there is still plenty left to reveal.

## Warframe Continues to Grow After More Than a Decade

Warframe originally launched in 2013 and has grown into one of the longest-running free-to-play games in the industry.

Digital Extremes says the game has now reached more than **90 million players worldwide**.

That makes the move to Tau especially significant.

Rather than simply adding another expansion to an existing map, Digital Extremes is opening an entirely new Star System that can support future stories, characters, and gameplay additions for years to come.

## Final Thoughts

Warframe: Tau is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious updates. Digital Extremes has attempted it.

The new Star Chart gives players an entirely different region to explore, while Fornax and Perita already feel distinct from the environments found throughout the Origin System.

Brysko also looks like a standout addition, especially with his detective-noir identity, Hound companion, and unique weapon set.

Most importantly, Tau feels less like a one-off expansion and more like the foundation for Warframe’s next era.

With another major showcase planned for November 27 and the full update arriving in December, there is still plenty left for Digital Extremes to reveal.
