WARLOCK: DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Revealed — A Dark Magic-Fueled Action Adventure From Wizards of the Coast

An all-new third-person D&D game is on the horizon, and it’s spellbound with potential.

Wizards of the Coast has officially unveiled WARLOCK: DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, a brand-new, third-person single-player action-adventure game set in a dark fantasy open world inspired by the iconic tabletop universe. Developed by Invoke Studios — a first-party studio under Wizards and Hasbro — WARLOCK introduces players to the haunting journey of Kaatri, a warrior who sacrifices everything to wield forbidden magic.

The title is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox, with a full gameplay reveal scheduled for summer 2026 and a planned release in 2027. The game was announced alongside a moody and cinematic teaser trailer, giving us our first taste of the arcane, cursed world to come.

A Pact Made in Shadows

In WARLOCK: DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, players step into the boots of Kaatri, a veteran fighter who makes a dangerous pact for otherworldly powers. This decision comes with grave consequences — the kind only a true Warlock would dare accept.

Kaatri is brought to life by acclaimed actress Tricia Helfer, known for her roles in Battlestar Galactica and Lucifer. Her performance includes full performance capture, promising a richly emotive protagonist shaped by both combat scars and metaphysical turmoil.

“Warlocks wield powerful, otherworldly magic, but it always comes at a cost,” said John Hight, President of Wizards of the Coast.

Magic as a Weapon and a Key

According to the official announcement, WARLOCK focuses heavily on the player’s ability to manipulate magic for both combat and exploration. Every spell Kaatri wields is not just a tool for destruction, but also a way to unlock new paths, alter the environment, and reveal hidden mysteries.

Combat in WARLOCK is described as a blend of melee and magic, designed to be both tactical and visceral. While many D&D-based games emphasize party-based strategies, WARLOCK is going all in on the lone hero archetype, wrapped in lore-rich storytelling and moment-to-moment action.

A Dark D&D World to Explore

Invoke Studios is setting the stage in a dark and beautiful open world steeped in the dangerous wonder that defines the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS universe. From ancient ruins to magical anomalies, the world of WARLOCK promises to be as much a character as Kaatri herself.

“Working with our colleagues at Wizards of the Coast on a brand as rich as D&D has given the team the creative freedom and support to build a new ambitious open-world experience for players,” said Dominic Guay, General Manager at Invoke Studios.

The studio behind WARLOCK is no stranger to high-calibre game development. Invoke’s team features veterans from franchises like Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Deus Ex, bringing an impressive pedigree to this D&D adaptation.

What Will WARLOCK Mean for Dungeons & Dragons Games?

WARLOCK is part of Wizards of the Coast’s renewed commitment to delivering AAA-quality video game experiences that go beyond traditional tabletop adaptations. While Baldur’s Gate 3 has taken the CRPG crown and Neverwinter continues to thrive in the MMO space, WARLOCK aims to carve out its own legacy with a focus on single-player storytelling, arcane lore, and character-driven gameplay.

Wizards’ expanding portfolio includes studios like Archetype Entertainment, Atomic Arcade, and now Invoke Studios, all pushing new boundaries with D&D and original IP.
