Mafia: The Old Country Revealed – Release Date, Editions, and Gameplay Trailer for 1900s Sicily Crime Saga

2K and Hangar 13 have officially pulled back the curtain on Mafia: The Old Country, the next installment in the legendary crime franchise. Unveiled during PAX East 2025, the announcement includes a gripping Official Gameplay Trailer, a Developer Insights video titled Breaking Omerta, and a full breakdown of editions, release platforms, and pre-order bonuses.
Mafia: The Old Country will launch worldwide on August 8, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and NVIDIA GeForce NOW.

A Return to the Roots – The Mafia Origin Story
Set in early 1900s Sicily, Mafia: The Old Country acts as a narrative prequel to the series. Players take on the role of Enzo Favara, a young man rising through the ranks of Don Torrisi’s crime family. The game promises a gritty, emotional story of loyalty, violence, and the brutal world of the Cosa Nostra at its very beginning.
“This is a focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion, and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay,” said Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes.

Gameplay: Brutal, Grounded, and Cinematic
The gameplay trailer showcases everything from brutal melee combat and stylish gunplay to traversal via horseback and vintage vehicles. Set against a richly detailed Sicilian backdrop, The Old Country embraces a linear narrative structure, providing a polished single-player campaign that doesn't demand 100+ hours of open-world exploration.
“We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments,” said 2K President David Ismailer. “Mafia: The Old Country is that kind of experience.”
Unreal Engine 5: A First for the Series
Mafia: The Old Country is the first in the series to be built with Unreal Engine 5, allowing for rich environmental detail, realistic lighting, and cinematic animation. Hangar 13’s Breaking Omerta video gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at how the developers captured early 20th-century Sicily with stunning authenticity.
