Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game Reveals Matt Mercer and Console Versions

Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game just got a much bigger spotlight.

Developer Giant Light Studios has revealed that Matt Mercer will voice Mr Magpie, the unsettling puppet host at the centre of the game’s corporate nightmare. The announcement was made during the ID@Xbox x IGN Showcase, alongside confirmation that the game is expanding beyond PC to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The surreal horror deckbuilder will also launch on Xbox Game Pass Day One, with Xbox Play Anywhere support.

Published by Miss Behaviour, Behaviour Interactive’s publishing label, and Gambit Digital, Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game is currently planned for early 2027.

Matt Mercer Is the Voice of Mr Magpie

Mr Magpie has officially found his voice.

Matt Mercer will provide the vocal performance behind the smiling puppet boss, adding another layer to the game’s unsettling mix of dark comedy and corporate horror.

Mercer is known for a long list of memorable gaming roles, including:

  • Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
  • Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Vecna in Dead by Daylight

The newly released trailer gives players their first taste of Mercer’s performance while offering another look at the strange workplace waiting inside Sunbright Pharmaceuticals.

Given how central Mr Magpie is to the game’s tone, Mercer’s casting feels like a significant part of the project rather than a simple celebrity voice reveal.

Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game Is Coming to Consoles

Originally announced for PC, the workplace is now expanding.

Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game will launch on:

  • PC
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PlayStation 5
  • Nintendo Switch 2

The game will also be available through Xbox Game Pass on day one and support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing players to move between compatible Xbox and PC experiences.

For a game that has already built interest through its Steam demo and Steam Next Fest presence, the console announcement opens the door to a much larger audience.

Minesweeper Meets Roguelike Deckbuilding

Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game combines Minesweeper-inspired deduction, push-your-luck mechanics, and roguelike deckbuilding.

Players flip cards and use hints to deduce where dangerous JERRY cards are hiding. The goal is to build strange synergies, chase increasingly absurd multipliers, and hit quota before the workday ends.

Knowing when to keep pushing and when to cash out is central to the experience. One bad decision can quickly turn a profitable shift into something much worse.

And according to Sunbright Pharmaceuticals, any JERRY-related workplace incidents are definitely not covered by employee benefits.

A Corporate Horror Game With a Strong Identity

What continues to make Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game stand out is how tightly its mechanics and presentation work together.

The card game itself is built around risk, deduction, and greed, while the surrounding office turns those systems into a dark corporate satire. Players are not simply trying to win a run. They are employees trying to meet expectations under the watch of a puppet boss who insists everything is perfectly harmless.

The workplace can also be explored away from the card table, giving players a chance to uncover more of Sunbright Pharmaceuticals and its increasingly questionable secrets.

That combination of card mechanics, exploration, horror, and humour gives the game a personality that feels very different from most deckbuilders.

Free Steam Demo Available Now

Players can already get an early look at the game through its free Steam demo.

The current demo features expanded workplace exploration, additional narrative framing, the SHARES system, a revamped Strategy selection system, and more interactions with Mr Magpie.

It serves as a useful preview of how the final game will combine card-based runs with the larger mystery surrounding the office.

Early 2027 Release

Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game is currently scheduled to launch in early 2027 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

With Matt Mercer now attached as Mr Magpie, console platforms confirmed, and Game Pass Day One support locked in, Giant Light Studios’ strange workplace horror game is entering 2027 with considerably more attention than before.

Final Thoughts

Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game already had a strong hook, but the latest announcements give the project an even bigger presence.

Matt Mercer feels like a natural fit for the unsettling puppet host, while the move to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2 makes the game much easier to discover outside of PC. Game Pass Day One support could also give the title a major boost when it launches.

For players who like roguelike deckbuilders, horror comedy, or games that turn workplace misery into something deeply strange, Mr Magpie’s Harmless Card Game is one to keep watching.
